My Job
I'm a teacher and a graduate from UIC. I currently work at John Spry Elementary School in the city of Chicago. I am finally certified and have been teaching at a CPS school for three years now and entering my fourth as of 8/06. The classroom thing did not work for me, so I switched to become a Physical Education teacher. The days are gone regarding grading papers and dealing with delinquent parents..err I mean students in the classroom. It's a great school...across the boulevard from Saucedo (where many of us got our driving permits in the hood). I finally can go to work and leave work where it should be! And the best part of this job is that summertime vacation and receiving those paychecks!
Still, the door is always open for new things in the teaching field. I may consider teaching music as a side thing and possibly return to the classroom as the PE thing is something that I do not see myself doin' for the rest of my career.
I currently am doing work with a band called the 912 Band (10/2006). We are multi-genered (big words for some of ya'll) meaning diverse. We ...Expand for more
play anything from jazz to modern day pop and everything in between. This is my third band in 2 years (I began playing at the end of 2005). If your interested in music lessons without the BS than I am the one :p
College
Its all a blur to me! Hangovers, morning classes, student teaching while still drunk. Yeah, college rocked and teachers rule!
Workplace
After HS, I worked in a lawfirm for about a year. I skipped school for that year until I realized that the law industry was not for me. Leaving that in '98, I went back Harold Washington College to get an associates degree while working as a youth counselor for the Archdiocese of Chicago. I was offered a full time job after the summer of '99 was over. From that point on, I knew my career was related to education in some form or another. It was then that I went to UIC after my AA in arts from HWC in 2001. In 2003, I attended UIC for my BA in teaching. I graduated in 2005 and currently hold two teaching certificates (classroom K-9 Middle School and Physical Education) I will hopefully pursue my music degree within the next two years.
